Although the ladies of Cardiff did not start to play officially until the formation of the Ladies League in 1922, with matches commencing in 1923, there is evidence that the ladies of Grangetown were already playing friendly games. |

Grange Married met Grange Single on June 5, 1922 with the Married ladies winning 61-56 and the Evening Express commented: "It is understood that an attempt is to be made to organise a friendly Chapel League amongst ladies as is the vogue amongst the Ladies of Liverpool." A representative meeting took place at the Wesley Hall, Grangetown of Ladies Baseball teams interested. Among them were Roath Road Brotherhood and Grange Baptists. It was decided to form a League to be known as THE WELSH BASEBALL LADIES LEAGUE and to apply to the Welsh Baseball Union for affiliation. |

A sensational decision was taken at this year's (2006) AGM and a breakaway was made from the men's WBU with a new WLBU (WELSH LADIES BASEBALL UNION) being formed. The Welsh Sports Council was immediately notified and the ladies' two representatives on the WBU resigned from that organisation. Over the years, several attempts were made to spread the men’s and ladies sport, but though there were teams at several times from Mid Glamorgan, the Vale of Glamorgan and Central Glamorgan, only the Gwent connection has stuck with four Newport clubs involved. |
